LATE JACKALS' RALLY STUNS SURF, 7-6
June 18 Recap

Little Falls, N.J. - After the Surf won in dramatic fashion Tuesday night, the Jackals staged a miracle comeback of their own, scoring four runs in the eighth and winning behind 1B Matt Lauderdale's walk off home run, to steal a win from the Surf 7-6 in a Can-Am League game Wednesday night at Yogi Berra Stadium.

LF Joe Burke (above) went 4-5 in the game, but it was not enough as the Surf fell short.

As they did Tuesday night, the Surf struck first off of Jackal's starter Ryan Pacyna. In the first inning, 1B Eddie Kim hit a monster blast, a three run homer to right that gave the Surf a quick 3-0 lead.

The Surf plated another run in the fourth, when C William Plaza doubled, and later scored on a sac fly by 2B Brad Thoma.

The Jackals finally got on the board in the bottom of the fourth. DH Juan Tejeda led off with a double, and scored when the very next batter, the 3B Chris Kelly, also doubled. Kelly would come around to score when RF Ramon Nivar grounded into a fielder's choice.

The Surf provided two more insurance runs in the seventh and the eighth, both RBI doubles by Burke and 3B Billy Hogan. Starter Brian Rodaway left with lead in the bottom of the seventh after working 6 2/3, allowing two runs on eight hits and striking out four.

The Jackals finally staged their comeback in the eight off reliever Aaron Easton. The Jackals strung together four straight hits to begin the inning. Kelly and Lauderdale hit back-to-back doubles to cut the Surf lead to 6-3. Nivar then singled to put runners on the corners with no outs. The next batter, LF Andrew Larsen, hit a pop up in front of the mound which hit Hogan’s glove and caromed into foul ground on the first base side, allowing Lauderdale to score and make it a 6-4 game. After Nivar scored on a sacrifice fly, pinch hitter Luke Allen doubled off the left field wall to score Larsen and tie the game at six.

In the ninth and with two outs, Lauderdale blasted a walk-off home run to left field off of Surf reliever Derek Duclos (0-3) to end the game.

For the Surf, Joe Burke went 4-5, and is now 6-8 in this series. Kim finished the day 1-3, and his three run home run tied him with Clyde Williams for the team lead. Plaza also had himself a nice day at the plate, going 3-4.

The rubber match of this series is set for tomorrow night at 7:05 PM. Righthander JC Huguet goes for the Surf, up against Michael Vicaro.
