WLADYKA AND BULLPEN SOLID AS SURF EDGE BROCKTON, 3-1
June 6 Recap

Atlantic City, NJ – Brockton (7-8) scored one run in the top of the first, but that was all they got Friday night as starter Jim Wladyka (1-1) was solid, pacing the Atlantic City Surf (9-6) to a 3-1 victory in a Can-Am League game at Bernie Robbins Stadium.

The Rox drew first blood, as CF Ervin Alcantara and SS Dominic Ramos led the game off with a pair of singles. The 3B Phillip Cuadrado flied out to left that scored Alcantara from third.

It would be the only run surrendered by starter Jim Wladyka, who worked five an one-thirds innings, allowing four hits and striking out two to earn his first victory of the season.

The Surf got on the board with two runs in the bottom of the third. CF Lucas Taylor (above) singled and stole second. He would later come around to score when 1B Joe Burke grounded out. C William Plaza then doubled, and was brought home by a LF Clyde Williams single.

The Surf added one more in the bottom of the 5th, when Taylor homered to left center field. It was Taylor’s second home run in three games. Prior to the two dingers, Taylor had only two home runs in his entire professional career.

Rox starter Rolando Viera earned the loss, tossing seven innings and allowing all three runs. He also struck out four batters.

The Surf totaled eleven hits, and now three out of the last four games have seen the offense put up double digits. Plaza, Williams, Kim, and Taylor all had two hit games.

The Surf takes on Brockton tomorrow night in the middle game of the three game series. Righty Mike McTamney (0-2) starts for Brockton, going up against Surf left Brian Roadway (2-1).
