SURF JUMP AHEAD EARLY, BOMB TORNADOES 9-1
June 3 Recap

Worcester, Mass. – Starter J.C. Huguet shut down the Worcester offense, while all nine of the Atlantic City starters got hits, as the Surf defeated the Tornadoes, 9-1, in a Can-Am League game on Tuesday night at Fitton Field, snapping Worcester’s four-game winning streak.

Atlantic City started things off with a run in the first, as RF Josh Burrus drove in SS Anthony Granato with a sacrifice fly. The Surf then added four more in the second, on a leadoff home run by 3B Billy Hogan, a two-run shot by C William Plaza in his first game since returning from a weeklong stint on the disabled list, and an RBI single by Granato.

Another two runs were added to Atlantic City’s total in the fifth inning, courtesy of a balk and a wild pitch, before a 1B Joe Burke RBI single and another sacrifice fly from Burrus made it a 9-1 game.

It proved to be plenty for Huguet (2-0), who gave up just one run on four hits and no walks in seven innings of work, for his second win of the season. The only blemish on the evening came on 2B Omar Pena’s leadoff home run in the fifth.

The Surf (7-5) banged out 11 hits on the evening, with every starter having at least one; Granato and 2B Brad Thoma had two apiece. Derek Barrows pitched two innings of effective relief, allowing one hit in two innings pitched.

Worcester starter Junior Guerrero (1-1) was tagged with the loss after only making it through four innings, giving up five runs on seven hits. DH Francisco Caraballo went 2-for-4 on the evening for the Tornadoes (8-3).

The two teams return to action Wednesday night, with Adam Cox (1-1) taking on Shaun McNamara (0-1).
